Free Whitepaper: Restoring images onto different hardware with O&O DiskImage

O&O DiskImage lets you restore an image, even the system partition, onto a computer with different hardware – thanks to the M.I.R. function (Machine Independent Restoration). Cloning on a computer with different hardware is also included.

Migration to new systems

When hardware has reached the end of its lifecycle, then it must be replaced. Often the question is then how to get the operating system and all the data onto a new computer. O&O DiskImage answers this question with Machine Independent Restoration (MIR for short). It allows you to restore a system image to a new machine that has different hardware components. Drivers and settings are automatically replaced so that the system can be up and running right away.

This mechanism is particularly important when an old PC or laptop is broken, and the new system has a completely different hardware. Not a problem with O&O DiskImage.

The three most common scenarios for using M.I.R.

You should use M.I.R. in the following scenarios:

  • Restoration of an image onto a computer with different hardware or cloning/duplication of a computer/server.
  • Enable M.I.R. by using the boot media to exchange faulty or defective drivers of an existing system.
  • Migrating physical computers/servers onto virtual machines or the other way round.
