NEW: O&O AutoBackup 8.1.1011! NAS and network shares as separate destination types & more!

Photos, important documents, videos and personal files are part of everyday digital life. And increasingly, those files are no longer stored exclusively on the local PC. Services such as OneDrive have become an integral part of the way many of us store, access and synchronize our data. Regular backups are therefore more important than ever. But they also need to be easy. That is exactly where O&O AutoBackup 8 comes in.

The latest version of our solution for automatically backing up and synchronizing files introduces some stunning new features. Connect. Back up. Done.

Connect. Back up. Done.

One of the most convenient features of O&O AutoBackup is the ability to start a backup automatically when a particular storage device is connected. For example, you can designate an external USB hard drive as the destination for a backup task. Connect that drive to your PC and O&O AutoBackup can automatically start the corresponding task. There is no need to remember to launch the software and manually start the same job each time. Simply select the files, folders or partitions you want to include, choose your destination and decide whether the data should be copied or synchronized.

New: Back up and synchronize OneDrive data

OneDrive has become a natural part of everyday Windows use for many people. Documents, photos and other files can be stored there and synchronized across different devices. With O&O AutoBackup 8, OneDrive data can now also be backed up and synchronized. This means your backup routine no longer needs to focus solely on conventional files and folders stored on your PC. For anyone who uses OneDrive regularly, this is one of the most significant additions in O&O AutoBackup 8.

New: Backup to S3-compatible storage

Version 8 also provides greater flexibility when choosing where your backups are stored. O&O AutoBackup now supports S3-compatible storage, giving you another option when creating a backup setup that matches your individual requirements.

New: Encryption and obfuscation

Creating a copy of your data is only one part of protecting it. Particularly when personal or confidential files are involved, keeping the backed-up information protected is equally important. O&O AutoBackup 8 therefore includes modern encryption and obfuscation capabilities designed to provide additional protection for your backup data.

New: A completely redesigned interface

One of the biggest visible changes in O&O AutoBackup 8 is its completely redesigned user interface. Our aim was simple: backing up your data should be easy to understand. The new interface guides you step by step through setting up your backup tasks. Choose the files you want to protect, select the destination and decide whether the data should be copied or synchronized. This straightforward workflow means you do not need specialist knowledge to establish a regular backup routine.

New in Version 8.1.1011:

Added:

  • Templates for destination folders for backup, synchronization and restore; with placeholders, multiple folder levels, preview and an option to disable them
  • The destination path can be changed in the wizard for a single run
  • Warning when backing up or synchronizing directly to the root directory of a drive or share
  • NAS and network shares as a separate destination type with saved credentials and automatic reconnection
  • “Open folder” for source and destination in the pair details; with a selection when multiple sources are used
  • Option to prompt for confirmation before deleting at the destination for manually started mirroring or bidirectional synchronization
  • “Continue in background” on every progress page: the run continues and the display returns to the home page

Changed:

  • Clicking the card of a running operation opens its progress page
  • Modify, Restore and Cancel are no longer available on the card of a running operation; cancellation is performed on the progress page
  • Metrics on a card are refreshed after a run has finished even if the home page was visible during the run
  • The deletion confirmation counts only objects that are actually removed and not replaced files
  • The “Add destination” tile remains visible in long destination lists; new destinations are automatically brought into view

Fixed:

  • Synchronization uses the selected destination folder and no longer creates an invisible “Sync” subfolder
  • An expired trial retains its state without an Internet connection and starts in the intended expired state
  • Folders that do not yet exist on network shares are created and free space is detected correctly
  • Backup pairs with multiple sources receive unique names based on the number of their source folders
  • A corrupted working directory under %TEMP% is automatically repaired at startup
  • The update check and update dialog are started only once; the dialog appears centered when the main window is hidden
  • Previously known updates remain available after skipped or failed checks
  • The first backup starts only after the setup question has been answered and not already in the background while the dialog is open
  • Runs postponed to the next full hour are scheduled at least five minutes in the future; otherwise, the following full hour is used
